Information On The National Memorial Friday 18th March Rebuild .

From 11 am - Music from various NZ performers

Open Air Service Starts 12 midday until 2 or 2:30pm

From approx 2.30pm Music will then come to about 3.30pm

How Do I Get There?

Organisers advise residents to take their method of transport because of traffic congestion. Please allow ample travel time.

Bike or Walk

Please bike or walk where possible.

Bike racks will be provided. It is better to pass into North Hagley Park from Harper Avenue, or from the management of Riccarton Ave. Park Terrace, the Salisbury bridge and the Armagh Street bridge are closed - there will be no pedestrian access through these streets and bridges.

Buses

All buses will be offering free servings and as many buses as possible will be in service on the day. For timetable and route information about Friday`s bus services, please refer towww.metroinfo.org.nz or call 03 3668855.

Parking

There will be limited car parking at the event. The usual car parking area for North Hagley Park events is NOT available (this is where the monument will have place).

Road closures

There are no road closures in gain to the current road closures due to the earthquake. Harper Avenue will be made narrower but there will yet be two way traffic.

Pick-up - drop-off

If you are dropping off and pick up home and friends, please consider carefully your agreed meeting place. If you try to fit too near to the concert venue, you may cause difficulty given the expected volume of both road and pedestrian traffic.

Taxis

There will be a drop-off and pick-up taxi area on Harper Avenue around the Fendalton Road intersection.

What Do I Take?

The National Christchurch Memorial Service is a community and syndicate event. There isa total alcohol ban in place, which will be implemented by the police.

  • Do not bring alcohol.
  • Do get a picnic lunch and non-alcoholic refreshments. Limited water will be provided, but please also get your own where possible
  • Do bring rugs and cushions to sit on
  • Do not bring chairs or other items which will forget the position of those behind you.
  • Do bring items to protect against the weather. The memorial service will go ahead rain or shine
  • Do get a trash bag with you and make your rubbish home. Volunteer services are stretched making it hard to make the green of litter quickly.

What will be on site?

St John have generously donated their sentence to be on-site to offer first aid assistance if required Limited toilet facilities will be provided. These toilets will be in the kind of a movable toilet block Drinking water stations will be provided. Limited litter bins will be provided. But please make your rubbish with you when you go. Police and security will be on site. Support from social agencies will be available.

How Do I Get Home?

Firstly, please be patient! And make care crossing roads as you give the park.

Buses

For timetable and route information about Friday bus services refer towww.metroinfo.org.nz or call 03 3668855. Homeward bound buses will result from two existing stops: 1. On Bealey Avenue between Montreal Street and Durham Street for buses going to eastern or northern suburbs. 2. On Hagley Avenue across the route from Hagley Community College for buses heading to the western suburbs. Shuttles will run between these two stops.
