The Eli Young Band have grown popular for their country music, but now are popular for the wrong reasons. Mark Eli on Sunday, while telling the National Anthem at an NFL game in Kansas City, suddenly forgot the words, not once, but twice, prompting boos and jeers from an angry crowd. It's not the 1st sentence a National Anthem fail has happened, but when it's a pop group like the Eli Young Band that does it, a crowd rarely forgets.
Eli Young Band - Details of the National Anthem Lyrics Fail
Anyone would be esteemed to find a sanctioned invitation to talk the National Anthem anywhere, anytime. But, when the NFL is the beginning of the invitation, one had better get their A-game. Perhaps, the Eli Young Band didn't get the memo. In hindsight, Mark Eli wishes he had take the fine print that perhaps said, "please don't bury the lyrics".
But, that's exactly what Mark Eli did. He started the treasured song off fine, but suddenly, in a veryawkwardmoment, he leave the lyrics to the 2nd verse. He soldiered through it, but realized that he had mucked it up, and attempted a re-fire. Along the way, the crowed chimed in with a muffled wave of boos.
When the flustered Eli Young Band front man forgot the National Anthem lyrics a bit time, the crowd erupted in a vehement wave of jeers like it was a shot from a gladiator bout when angry crowd-goers yell, "off with his head".
Eli Young Band Apologizes
Mark Eli and his band issued a command of apology and attributed the National Anthem debacle to nervousness and technical difficulty. Mark Eli had this to say:
"I'd care to apologise to the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans," said Eli. "I was hoping to have you a better performance. I take singing our National Anthem very badly and look forward to telling it again in the future. I hope to smash it out of the ballpark the future time!"
Next time? Out the park? Perhaps, he's gearing up for a Kansas City Royals MLB game. The fans at a baseball park may let it slip them by because they're all hungover anyway, right? BTW, the Chiefs won. Maybe the Eli Young Band was their pixie dust.
