Imtiaz Ali becomes a dress to promote 'Antardwand'

Mumbai, Aug 4 (IANS) Director Imtiaz Ali has not even promoted his own films like this - but for National Award winning movie "Antardwand", the filmmaker went an extra mile and polished as a groom to raise it.

"I saw this picture before it got the National Honor and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is not boring. It is quite entertaining and likewise it talks about a matter that is so relevant," Ali told IANS.

"So I decided to aid in the packaging process because these are small films and take an impetus so that people get aware of their existence," he added.

"Antardwand", directed by Sushil Rajpal, is a movie based on a true tale of groom kidnapping in Bihar. The movie is slated to hit the screens Aug 27. In place to raise the film, Ali dressed like a train and addressed the media here.

Ali, who has directed films like "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal", revealed that he was also inclined towards the movie because he hails from a part where groom kidnapping is a rampant practice.

"I can quite relate to this subject because I get from Jamshedpur and end to that area this exercise is quite rampant. So I was glad that now there is a picture that highlights this issue. Last year, almost 1,000 cases of groom kidnapping were registered," enlightened the director.

The picture that has been made on an approximate budget of Rs.1.5 crore stars Raj Singh Chaudhary, Vinay Pathak, Swati Sen and Akhilindra Mishra, among others.

Ali also wants to foreground the period that all socially relevant films are not art house cinema, something that is commonly perceived.

"A lot of movies that are socially relevant are expected to be tedious and art house so I wanted to get forward that this picture is quite entertaining, quite fast paced. All films with social issues are not art house cinema," he told IANS.

Asked if he would wish to create a picture on a social issue, the manager said: "I am getting inspired to do that, but that will just occur when I actually feel strongly about an issue."
