Jimmy Kimmel Rallies Support for Tomorrow's 'National Unfriend Day .

Jimmy Kimmel, 'Good Morning America'With the growing popularity of Facebook, Jimmy Kimmel has decided to have a stand. He's declared Wednesday, November 17th to be National Unfriend Day. He went on 'Good Morning America' (Weekdays, 7AM on ABC) to speak about why he feels such a vacation is essential in this age of social networking. People are "spending an unreasonable number of time on Facebook," Kimmel explained.

"And I wondered what could perhaps be so interesting, and how you could have 900 friends. I mean, no one has 900 friends!" Unfortunately, it looks like Facebook has a force of its own, and Kimmel's initiative may be backfiring on him. He has jokingly targeted a random young woman, Gina Lovato, who had approximately 500 friends, for a mass unfriending. Though thanks to Kimmel's publicity, Lovato is now at over 4,000 friends and growing. "Now she's got 4,000, and that's not just how I imagined this going," Kimmel admitted. "But I trust people are setting her up and tomorrow on National Unfriend Day they are leaving to deck her en masse and she will only be left alone and smoking." We consider it's more likely people are telling Kimmel they're not entirely on-board with his Unfriend campaign. People like connecting with friends and loved ones on Facebook. They still like connecting with chance acquaintances, people they saw at a company once, or that charming cashier they saw last night at Walgreens. For example, there's a Jimmy Kimmel Facebook page out there which 10,790 people have "liked" as of this writing. Even worse, 43,706 people currently Like the Jimmy Kimmel Live Facebook page. If National Unfriend Day doesn't turn out, Jimmy may want to schedule a National Unlike Day after this class to get rid of all of his Facebook fans. So how near it, Facebookers? How many of you think all 900 of your Facebook friends to be close personal friends? How many of you are leaving to drop your Wednesday unfriending them on Facebook? How many of you are leaving to unlike Kimmel? We're sure you can tune into 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' tomorrow night to see updates on Lovato's page, as good as how his initiative has been received.
