News : National e-Governance Advisory Group Meet Gets Underway Policy on Open Standards and Biometric Standards for e-Governance Released
The National e-Governance Advisory Group meet began this morning under the Chairmanship of the Federal Minister of Communications and IT, Shri A. Raja released. The Insurance on Open Standards and Biometric Standards for e-Governance was also released by the Minister.

peaking on the occasion, the Minister underlined the grandness of interoperability between the various e-Governance applications and said that standards will see the same. The Insurance on Open Standards would supply a model for choice of open standards to avoid vendor lock-in and develop cost effective and inter-operable e-Governance applications. He further added that the launching of the biometric standard for e-Governance applications ensures that the various applications are able to change the biometric data and are inter-operable. The biometric data being captured will go a long way in ensuring effective targeting and execution of several social benefit schemes. This will control fraud and ghost applicants for availing benefits. Department of Information Technology has worked in close collaboration with UID authority for preparation of these standards.Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of Land for Communications and IT, said on the affair that Data Communication Technologies (ICTs) have enormous potential to enable access to critical public services and information efficiently, speedily and in a cost efficient manner.
