The Star Spangled Banner

Goshen College in Indianahas banned the National Anthem at its sporting events because they see it as too violent in nature.Perhaps this is a big time to reflecton the originsofournation`s anthem.

After the British bombing of Fort McHenry in 1814, Sir Francis Scott Key wrote a poem after seeing the flag still standing. We`ve all sung the lyrics numerous times with pride.

So what was I look for in a new national anthem? The song needs to be the traits Americans value-freedom, unity, equality, striving for a better life. It shouldn't war monger, but it should sound confident and proud. It inevitably to be honest, too, which means it's not afraid to head to America's shortcomings as way to advance its citizens to raise above their faults.
