Grace Brown: The National - High Violet Album Review

Throughout your life you find albums that remain with you forever. 'High Violet' is one of those albums. Like a fine wine, 'High Violet' gets better with sentence and each listen. Full of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered, The National's latest release similar to their previous records is good of vignettes about the everyday lives of everyday folks layered with intelligent, metaphorical lyrics above driving beats, basslines and guitars.

The Mock Chop: Recent Work

We could all complain about the hardships, but it sounds a lot better if you can croon over timeless brass hip-hop/R`n`B melodies like a skint Bill Withers. Blacc`s lyricisms are sanguine statements wrapped in mournful tones. His cloaked, clandestine approach to upbeat, penniless alcoholic`s anthem `I Require A Dollar`, yet powerful indiscretion on the tender `Momma Hold My Hand` signifies a powerful statement on the delicacy of spirit over money.

The National - High Violet
Go to spectrumculture.com and take the reast of the top 20 list.The National reportedly intended to get an optimistic, catchy record as their follow-up to Boxer. Instead, this year's High Violet was every bit as black as its predecessor. It also ended up every bit as good; indeed, one is hard-pressed to place the album's premier song because nearly all of them are just that damn great.

Quintessentially Quirky: Leave the silver city 'have all the .

For a 42 year old man in a suit, Matt Berninger really knows how to shake out. This was not the only unexpected thing about last Friday.Berninger is the principal vocalist of American superstar indie rock band the National. They come from Ohio, but I saw them on Friday night all the way ended in Scotland. The entire ten piece band couldn't do it across the pond, but we had eight members ready to have some large music and a great time.
